Indomitable

So many times, my friend has been put down;
For years, they’ve trampled, torn, and pounded him;
But I have never seen him with a frown;
He bears it all, and pardons insults grim.

Now I’m not saying he enjoys abuse,
But he won’t ever let it spoil his day;
He’s known around the world, for he’s diffuse,
Though fame and power never come his way.

His life consists of water, air, and sun;
Above the ground, a little, he does rise;
Essential he’s become, and harms no one;
A hero’s what he is in my own eyes.

Although you cut him down, he has a name,
So let us bring to Grass a little fame.
